Cultivating Financial Clarity During Divorce

When life shifts and financial details become tangled, clarity grows from careful, steady work. Much like separating intertwined roots so each plant can thrive on its own, divorce requires patient examination of your financial picture so you can move forward with confidence.

As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®, I help you make sense of assets, debts, income, and your future financial decisions. My role is to bring structure to the details, explain what matters, and provide clear analysis that supports informed decision-making. Together, we’ll work through your financial information so every piece is understood and thoughtfully presented.

“Your ability to present numbers clearly, create financial scenarios creatively, and think holistically about money and life means so much to me.”

Services That Help You grow Forward

financial foundations

A well-organized financial foundation sets the stage for every decision you’ll make during your divorce. I help you gather, clarify, and document your financial information so you’re prepared for discussions with your attorney and ready for mediation.

What this includes:

  • Support gathering and reviewing financial documents
  • Identification of gaps, inconsistencies, or missing information
  • Clear, organized lists of assets, debts, and income with supporting documentation
  • Detailed budget analysis based on actual expenses, not estimates
  • Income verification and documentation from all sources
  • Preparation for attorney meetings, mediation, or early settlement talks
  • Strategic presentation that strengthens your attorney’s position
  • Practical questions to help you understand the decisions ahead

This work helps reduce stress and keeps your financial information steady, accurate, and ready for the next step in your process.

asset analysis

Understanding what you own, what it’s worth, and how it fits into your future is central to a workable settlement. I break down your accounts, property, and other assets so you can see clearly what you’re working with.

What this includes:

  • Review and explanation of financial accounts, property values, and investment holdings
  • Identification of community vs. separate interest indicators
  • Notes on tax considerations that may affect value
  • Organized summaries you can share with your attorney

This analysis gives you (and your attorney) a clear, simple view of the financial landscape.

RSU & Stock Options Analysis

Equity compensation can be one of the most complicated areas in a divorce. I walk you through vesting schedules, grant details, tax considerations, and division strategies so you understand exactly what these assets mean for you.

What this includes:

  • Analysis of RSUs, stock options, ESPPs, and performance shares
  • Vesting timelines and tax-impact considerations
  • Identification of community vs. separate components
  • Clear summaries and exhibits for mediation or negotiations

This helps ensure equity compensation is divided accurately and fairly.

Pension Valuation

Pensions require careful, detailed analysis to understand their true value. Whether you’re evaluating a traditional pension, public or corporate benefits, current payments, or future benefits with or without survivor options, I calculate realistic estimates and illustrate the differences among the major division approaches. These may include dividing the monthly benefit, separating the pension into two distinct pensions, or exchanging a pension interest for another marital asset — as well as the role survivor benefits play in each option.

What this includes:

  • Present value calculations using accepted actuarial methods
  • Clear identification of marital vs. separate property interests, whether straightforward or involving breaks in service
  • Research and review of plan-specific features, including any unusual rules or pension “twists” that may affect value or division

You receive a clear explanation of both the immediate impact and the long-term implications so you can make informed choices.

Please note: I do not value military pensions. The military system uses its own proprietary life expectancy tables, which are not publicly accessible.

calculating separate property

If you brought assets into the marriage, received gifts or inheritances, or made contributions after separation, I help trace and document those amounts clearly and appropriately.

What this includes:

  • Detailed review of statements and transaction history
  • Calculation of separate vs. community components
  • Summaries you and your attorney can use in negotiations or mediation

Proper tracing helps ensure separate property claims are well supported.

future planning

Part of divorce financial analysis is understanding how future decisions will affect your long-term stability. I use financial planning principles to help you look ahead with clarity—not as an investment manager, but as part of your divorce decision-making.

What this includes:

  • After-tax cash flow comparisons
  • Long-term projections under different settlement terms
  • Budgeting and lifestyle considerations post-divorce
  • Guidance to help you prepare for independent financial management

This forward-looking work helps you understand how different choices may affect your future.

forensic review

Sometimes financial confusion isn’t just emotional—there may be missing, unclear, or hard-to-parse information. I review accounts and documents for inconsistencies, unexplained activity, or items that need clarification.

What this includes:

  • Careful review of statements, tax returns, and relevant records
  • Identification of irregular transactions or missing information
  • Organized summaries for your attorney to review

This analysis can help resolve questions early and give you a clear, factual footing.

lifestyle documentation

Documenting the marital standard of living can be important for maintenance discussions or understanding future budget needs. I help you assemble a practical, accurate view of household spending for a defined historical period — typically one to five years, depending on the separation timeline and what’s most relevant to the case.

What this includes:

  • Review of income, spending, and cost of living during the selected timeframe
  • Categorization of expenses and spending trends
  • Practical summaries that support your attorney’s work and your own decision-making

This analysis provides a realistic foundation for understanding past spending patterns and how they may inform future financial decisions. Because it is time-intensive, lifestyle documentation is typically reserved for cases where standard expense declarations are insufficient or disputed.

Clarity and Support You Can Trust

Divorce brings financial questions that can feel complicated and sometimes overwhelming. My role is to help you understand the facts, assess your options, and feel prepared for the decisions ahead. I provide clear, organized analysis—not legal advice—and work alongside your attorney to support your overall strategy.
